keep it up

so the fashion show is over……and i definately had a moment of sadness mixed with relief.  the show went really well and everything looked great (the relief)…….but i really enjoyed having a big project to work on and i’m a little sad the show is over.  i have a long over-due thank you to say to erika backberg.  she is the owner of tea tree designs and the brilliant mind behind all of the jewlery worn on the runway by the 2709 models at voltage.  her jewlery really brought the look together.  you can buy her desgins at cliche.

on thursday night bonnie and i were on the 10 pm news on WCCO-TV!

hare dooooos

last night, our friend, zach kopp, came over to practice styling our hair.  he’ll be coming backstage with us during the voltage show to do our hair (because we have to make an appearance on the runway during the curtain call, and because we want to look just as fabulous as our models).  he worked on our hair while we worked on our clothes. here’s bonnie hard at work, while zach is hard at work on her long locks.

photo shoot!!!

on saturday, bonnie and i had our first fashion photo shoot!  it was awesome.  we went to cedar lake in minneapolis, and our buddy amber engfer (also here) took photos in the woods and on the beach.  the lighting was perfect, but i think the girls were a little cold. thanks to our georgeous models, elisa, shalisha, and sara for shivering through the whole thing.  they managed to look beautiful even though they were freezing.  we used a tent as a dressing room and a tree as a closet.  i haven’t seen the photos yet, but i’m confident in amber’s talents.  i’ll be sure to post them when i get them.

we’re in business

today we got our business cards!  they’re screen printed on fabric.  i still need to starch them to stiffen them up, but i think they came out beautifully.  if you come to voltage, maybe i’ll give you one, and we can “network.”

we’re all about…..

the voltage fashion show is less than 2 weeks away, and as bonnie and i are reviewing our collection, doing model fittings, and making sure everything looks beautiful, we are constantly reminding ourselves of our original design intent.  i thought i’d take this opportunity to share with you, our internet fans, what we’re all about.

bonnie and i became friends a little over a year ago.  we were partnered up on a project at work, and it just clicked.  we began to feed off of each other’s ideas and inspire one another.  bonnie studied fashion design at virginia commonwealth university, and also did a study abroad at central st martins in london.  i studied furniture design at savannah college of art and design.  we found that our different design backgrounds complimented each other.

we both bicycle everywhere we can, and it has become a central part of our lifestyle. we became roommates…and our lives we even more intertwined. when voltage applications were released in september, bonnie decided she wanted to design a line.  i kept throwing ideas at bonnie until she invited me (or i invited myself) to be part of the whole thing.  we called ourselves “2709” after the address of our home and studio.

our spring 2009 line is desgined for women who use bicycles for transportation.  we want to provide them with clothing that is comfortable on a bike and off of a bike.  A 2709 girl can pedal wearing are garments all over town…working, shopping, socialing…

…so don’t expect to see any floor length gowns from us…..expect to see functional, comfortable, and fashionable garments, ready to be added to your everyday wardrobe.

it’s spring……ride your bicycle!

zipper time

tonight bonnie is spending some time with all the zippers in our Voltage collection.  this past weekend we had model fitting for all of our 10 runway looks.  the zippers were only pinned in the garments. this allowed for tweeks could be made in order to get a more perfect fit. it didn’t seem very smart to sew in the zippers just to remove them later.  Now……bonnie is left with the task of sewing zipper after zipper.
